Fujifilm just announced the new GFX medium format mirrorless camera system, which is expected to be available in early 2017, and comprises the camera body along with six different lenses. The GFX 50S houses a 51.4MP 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS sensor, which is configured to output several aspect ratios used in traditional film photography: 4:3 (native format), 3:2, 1:1, 4:5, 6:7, and 6:17.
Not really the size of a film "Medium format" but still a fairly whopping digital sensor with big pixels. No pictures of the body yet or dimensions listed. Fuji makes some really elegant machines, so this one should be a winner for pros.

There have been videos and images of this camera for a couple of months now.....even the estimated price....for days now....
Interesting. Upon release, I expect this camera to be quite pricey; probably not affordable enough for me to box away my medium format film camera just yet.

Nice. I will be watching DPReview for test reports on this one. Fujifilm has done very well with their recent APS-C mirrorless models. They make some great lenses, and are known for dynamite JPEGs featuring Fujifilm film simulations.
I wonder who will buy it? If the price is right, there are some other medium format manufacturers who will be very nervous.
Interesting. I thought Canon would venture into the Medium Format technology after releasing the new M5. I read an article, not long ago, that Canon has no interest in Medium Format cameras in the foreseeable future.

The Pentax 645Z has the same-size sensor, made by Sony. If the Fujifilm rendition is cheaper than the Pentax, that will make it even more affordable, though still much more than full-frame.

Fujifilm uses very different processing algorithms for their images. So that will be interesting, too.
I know I don't need one, but there are folks who make HUGE prints that MUST be highly detailed, because they are pixel-peeped from an unnaturally close distance. Imagine a class group photo of 600 college seniors... or a model wearing an intricate print fabric dress... Full frame is barely enough for these, so every additional pixel in a camera such as this one is welcome.
The lack of a viewfinder or an EVF (according to the announcement) will be a killer for many buyers. The camera will have an optional EVF attachment, but IMO those things are always clunky - another small part to loose.
Fuji makes its own sensor if I recall correctly (memories of S2Pro).
As to huge prints, this resolution is a far cry from the 250mb offerings that are in the market already in the medium format.

In 2016 there are no excuses not to be informed about a subject. You should try educating yourself instead of guessing. I guess you are trying to make up for your lack of skills. But at least have your facts right. Jeesus!
This sensor is designed by Fuji but it is outsourced. And this isn't the typical Fuji x-trans sensor. It is the common Bayer sensor. When introduced early in 2017 the camera will have 3 lenses available with it (1 prime, 1 zoom and 1 macro lens) and 3 more by the end of 2017 according to Fuji. The add on viewfinder has a low profile so it should not be an issue. Price will be under 10k with a lens
PS: all this info is available to everyone and takes a few minutes of watching a video.

Why would you assume that? Any pro who is the target for a camera that costs $10k+ don't moan about a low profile removable efv. Only those who can't afford it in the first place bitch about such thing. They buy it for the resolution. How many real pro have you seen complain about the weight of a d5 or the canon equivalent?

Estimates of price and the finished specs are not final just yet - at least according to what sources I have access to. Pre production estimates not always true.

I agree, but wasn't suggesting anything about a weight issue. I have observed a number of other cameras for which the viewfinder was an add-on (afterthought) and IMO spoiled the lines of the camera. And as I stated, it's another 'piece' that can get separated and easily lost. That's all...no real argument here. Other UHH threads are saying that cameras are a thing of the past and will be passed up by cellphones, so why invest $10k in one?

Ralph, I gave an example with the d5. Those who can benefit from the resolution will put up with an add on viewfinder. It is a non issue for those who will purchase it. And you are making my point for me. The person who brought this issue up is never going to purchase it. You have a great day.
