I dropped my Minolta Dimage Z6 and can not find anywhere that can repair it. I am looking at the Nikon D5500 or any other camera that is of equal price and specifications. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
The 5500 is a great camera and a good step up from your Minolta (too bad you dropped it). I was comparing the 7200 to it and this is what I found. The price depending up where you look is about the same. The 7200 has many features that the 5500 doesn't. But it (the 7200) lacks one that I really like on mine and that is the articulated viewer. But in all other categories the 7200, hands down is the better camera. Here is a site for comparison; don't pay too much attention to the scores, if the person doesn't like one camera he will leave numbers out and bring the score down. But look at it matching feature for feature.
I haven't seen a post from you. SO welcome to the forum. Just ask questions and post pictures. You are among friends
We just replaced my wife's Canon T5i, as I was not happy with the graininess of the images. I have a 6D and a Nikon D7200, both of which I like. I got her a D5300. It was lower cost than the 5500 and we liked the features mix a little better.

There are no equals at that price point in terms of image quality.

Sorry to hear about the Minolta. My suggestion is to also consider cameras outside the Canon/Nikon bubble, like the new Pentax K-70. Great camera, nice features, and it's weather sealed, a feature not found on the D5500 but is on the Nikon D7100 and 7200.
The new Pentax K-70 has many nice upgrades from past Pentax's and is a VERY worthy competitor to the Canons and Nikons. I've owned the K-50, it's older brother, and was NEVER disappointed with its performance, so please do yourself a favor and consider it.
Sony a6000 is the best deal in Digital photography today. If you liked your Minolta, you will love the Sony.

Look at Used and Refurbished DSLR Cameras, possibly Nikon D3300, highly rated and recommended as a beginner's DSLR Camera. Watch You Tube Videos from experienced Photographer's

Very good advice. My same sentiment 👍
Thank you all for the good advice.
You can buy a new Minolta on E Bay for a little less than $300.00 dollars. Adorama has a refurbished D5500 with a AF, DX 18-55 VR11 lens for $549.00 dollars. I don't think your going to find your price match. However I didn't look for used. There are a lot of nice point and shoot cameras in your price range. Check Best Buy, or Wal-Mart Black Friday. Last Christmas I bought my daughter a Nikon L 840 if I remember right I paid around $200.00 dollars for it. The zoom lens on it is a monster. She likes it
Purchased a Nikon D5500 from Sam's club. Once again thanks for the help. Pictures to follow.
