I went to Jasper Pulaski State Park in Indiana Last Wed. At this time there is about 15000 Sandhill Cranes there for a stopover on there way to Florida. [I hope to follow soon]. There isa great viewing platform to photograph the birds. I got there at sunrise to find a lot of fog. I didn't think they would fly in the fog, but a few did. After a while the lifted and was able to get a few shoots.

Thanks Swampy. It is always fun to go there and catch them on the wing.

Nicely caught. I like the last shot best, with the flock of birds offering their own band of color to the image.

I've been there a couple of times. I did find out that if you get there too early in the day you can drive on some of the back roads and catch them feeding. At times you can get closer to them than at the stand. Goose Pond, in Greene County is another good place to catch them along with other migrating birds such as the pelican. Good shots.

Good shots but I especially like the foggy background in the third photo. Headed up to the Central Valley (Modesto) next month to try to get some Cranes myself.

Thanks Randy. It was kinda difficult to see them what with the fog and distance. That is only a portion of them. And the noise they make. As soon a day break they start talking. Sounds like a bunch of old ladies over the back fence. LOL

Thanks Graveman. I have gone there for several years and each time is a different experience. This time it was foggy. The file of them feeding is as you said driving around and finding them feeding in the fields. I am not familiar with Goose Pond.

Thanks Nalu. At first I was upset to see the fog. I didn't think they would fly. But as you can see they jump. Good luck on your trip to see them.
