Have you ever bought something and before you bought it you knew you really didn't need it then you bought it anyway, then after you bought it your pissed at yourself for spending "THAT MUCH" money for something you really don't need. Last night I ordered from B&H a D500 and a Lexar XQD 128 gig M card and reader = just south of $2K. Problem is - I already have a D7200. My daughter plays on her high school basket ball team and I shot her games, so I figured I had to have this camera. Problem is I can get great shots with my 7200, but figured I could get better shots with a D500, which I'm sure I can but are they going to be $2K better with the D500. OH WELL
It is called GAS.... Gear Acquisition Syndrome..want to buy a 150-600 Sigma Sport?

Well, it is Your money, but considering you already had a great camera, unless you are a Professional Photographer, all I must say is WHY.
You have 30 days to return for a full refund at B & H. Give it a run, decide if it really is a cut way above the 7200 and make your decision. There is nothing wrong with changing your mind.

As pointed out, GAS. I've managed to avoid this issue for years. I've only purchased equipment that was substantially above what I had already. The other reason was equipment that was needed for a particular assignment, then the client assisted in paying for it.
I'm still using cameras that are 40-60 years old. They work.

You could always sell the D7200 and call it a day.
Wow, G.A.S., I like that one, and I guess we all have a little G.A.S. now and then, but we must always do our best to control it, we do not want to leave any Stains in our savings or checking accounts, they are hard to remove. 😅😅😅😅😅

Maybe? Nikon mount? condition? price? are you in Chicago now?
Like most photographers I struggle with this from time to time and I ask myself two questions. (1) As mentioned above, do I really need it and are my pictures going to be that much better? My answer to this is usually no. (2) I've worked hard to provide a good life for my family and don't have many hobbies that require a lot of money to enjoy, so SHOULD I spend this much money on myself? My answer is usually a unhesitating yes. I'm struggling with the same decision as I'm retiring in a few months and considering replacing my D7000 with a D500 or much cheaper D7200. From what I've read unless you're going to shoot a lot of night time sports the D7200 will do just about anything the D500 will but I've got a feeling that the minute you take it out of the box you won't want to let it go so enjoy your D500 and let me know what you want for your used 7200 :)
For $20... sure. Every now and then a thoughtless impulse buy.
For $2k? Absolutely not. I always think long and hard before spending that kind of money on a hobby-related item.
I'm not a professional, so I have no NEED for any of the photographic equipment I have. It's a hobby, and as I have stated before, hobbies are not governed by the rule of reason. I just bought a 5D Mk IV recently. Did I need it? Heck no. Did I want it? Yup. Am I glad I got it? You betcha! I might spend some time debating with myself about buying something, but once I click on "Submit Order" that's the end of it for me. I don't give it another thought after that. In fact, after the latest toy shows up and I have played with it for a while I usually end up wondering why I didn't get it sooner.

Perfect attitude! Compared to Harley's and golf, cameras are mostly pretty reasonable .

I think we all suffer from GAS from time to time. I suffer from it often, but rarely succumb to it. Fortunately, or I'd be single. My last GAS attack resulted in a D7200. I had to convince myself that I needed to ditch my A6000 because of an issue with my right thumb and having trouble accessing the top controls properly. So I returned it and got the D7200 because I thought I like the layout better. (gotta justify it somehow, ya know) I missed the A6000, and after surgery fixed my hand, I now feel stuck with the DSLR. I now find myself looking to sell, or trade, my Nikon gear and go back to mirrorless, possibly M43. Darned GAS, anyway.
I have a Nikon D3300 with 2 lens and I am quite satisfied, my next G.A.S. may be a new upgraded smartphone with a high M.P. lens and a good Zoom lens, if that technology is available.
