In regards to your photo; I don't see anything wrong with it, your focus is spot on, you have the background just about perfect and it is a good action shot. IMHO an excellent shot.

I was using my Nikon 70-200 f2.8. At times, I needed something less than 70 mm. I had the Nikon 24-120;however, the f4 was too slow.
