Electoral college at fault?

It seems to me that there is a movement to overthrow the electoral college. I keep hearing, especially on this site, Hillary won the popular vote. Therefore, she should be President elect.
The protesters keep saying "Not my president."
There is a movement to convince electoral voters to ignore their voter's mandate and vote for Clinton.
My question is: Do people want to do away with the electoral college?

Of course. The winners and constitutionalists want to keep it.
It seems as though throwing out the constitution would open a can of worms.

Five times in our history, the popular-vote winner has come in second. Instead of getting rid of the Electoral College, it has been suggested that the Electors be pledged to the national winner instead of the state winner. That solves it without need for a Constitutional Amendment.

Before this election the Democrats liked the electoral vote because it gave them advantage. It was thought that Hillary had 240 votes right at the start.
On Friday before election day BSNBC on morning Joe said Hillary would win with 400 electoral votes.
Problem was people were fed up with Obama and did not want 4 more years of the same. I have always thought we should go by popular vote but since gerrymandering had gave the Democrats a huge advantage they liked that system. Now that they have lost now they don't like it.

No not only the losers. Even Donny T recognized that the Electoral College should be eliminated. Every democracy in the world elects their leaders by popular vote and that should be the system we have here.
Unfortunately, it will take a Constitutional Amendment to do it so even if we started the discussion today we could look at more than twenty years to get it done, even if we could, which I doubt.
Remember in 1971, the Equal Rights Amendment was introduced which would give women equal rights to men. Since then we still haven't passed it and in fact most people don't even recall the debate. So until then looks like we're stuck with a system that was put into effect in 1789. By the way, the system was put in to protect the southern states that were sparsly populated. Under the college those states were allowed to count slaves as 3/5 of a person even though slaves couldn't vote. The thought that we needed to have an electoral college so people could travel to make the final vote really doesn't hold water if you think about it. We could have simply sent a messenger with the popular vote to the capital as simply as we sent the electoral vote.

One of the drawbacks with doing away with the electoral college is that there are some states that would never see a Presidential candidate again, and other states that would see enough of the candidates that they could meet residency requirements!!

Trump only came to Indiana one time he knew he had Indiana.
What I don't understand is how was Trump polling so much better than the others unless they were Lying.
When Trump went to Wisconsin the media made fun of him Wisconsin is Blue state he can not win there.
He went to Detroit they said he was wasting his time but turns out he knew where he needed to go and he turned those Blue states Red.
His information was much better than what they had.
Conway said they knew they could win those states that is why he spent time there.

The electoral vote was 304 to 228. That is not even close to the margin of error. I guess the media polls were wrong. We can probably figure out why.

Yes. It was made up by men who had no idea where this country was going and it simply needs to reflect the reality of the time.

How about changing the first amendment?
You have freedom of speech as long as it doesn't disagree or offend anyone.

Frank T: I'd like to take a moment to thank Donald Trump, The Tea Party and the far right wing conservatives who post on this site.
It is all of you that I hold near and dear to my heart for killing the Republican Party.
Yes, your party has died and although it may manage to resurrect itself over the next decade; for the time being and for the near future Democrats and in particular Progressive Democrats will rule the Presidency and most likely the Senate and the House.
Look forward to the changes we're going to make. Yes we intend to let women rule their own bodies and to outlaw discrimination. We're going to make it easier to vote and hopefully easier for our children to get a college education without amassing huge debt. We've got an extensive agenda which I'm sure will trouble a lot of you but we're going to do the right thing for our people and our planet.
Thank you for all you've done. We couldn't have done it without you.
