Eliminate the Electoral College

Hillary won the popular vote but lost the election, so we should abolish the Electoral College? Would the Democrats be complaining if Trump won the popular vote but lost the election? A rhetorical question.

They point out that the heads of the Republican party don't support Trump. But the vast majority of the Republican voters do. Isn't that the same as the Electoral College vs the popular vote?

No, the electoral college protects us from the dominance of the large metropolitan areas, if you look at a county map of this election it is amazing how little blue appears on the map, a few large hubs in CA, Chicago, Miami and the New England area... Remember we never we a pure democracy, the founders knew what they were doing, each state is represented and weighted on more than just its raw population.

The States would never ratify such a change in the Constitution as it gives all of the decision to 4 or 5 of the largest population centers.

LOL... You never know, they ratified the 17th amendment which was against their interest, changed the Senate from advocating for the states into advocating for the federal government....

Ol' Frank Loc: Orlando,

This is a question that comes up every election. Our Founding Fathers was right. Leave it alone.

Our founding fathers do not live in the 21st century. For starters we don't need to go by horseback to deliver the votes. The second thing which is even more important is why the Electoral College exists in the first place. Originally, the southern states were sparsely populated with the exception of slaves. The electoral college allowed them to arrive at the population of the state by counting each slave as 3/5 of a white person.
Third, every modern democracy in the world elects people based upon a popular vote of its citizens and that's the way it should be here.
The good news for you guys that want to keep it is that it requires a change to the constitution and that would require 3/4 of the states to ratify it. Considering we haven't passed the 1971 equal rights amendment yet, I don't hold out much hope for this change either.

Bingo, somebody actually understands. The basis of our country is majority rule with the protection of the rights of the minority. Doesn't always work perfectly but without the electoral college the rural areas of this country would have much less say in electing the President and the candidates would only care about densely populated areas.

Frankie Boy! Give us some more words of wisdom genius. LOL

Frank T: I'd like to take a moment to thank Donald Trump, The Tea Party and the far right wing conservatives who post on this site.
It is all of you that I hold near and dear to my heart for killing the Republican Party.
Yes, your party has died and although it may manage to resurrect itself over the next decade; for the time being and for the near future Democrats and in particular Progressive Democrats will rule the Presidency and most likely the Senate and the House.
Look forward to the changes we're going to make. Yes we intend to let women rule their own bodies and to outlaw discrimination. We're going to make it easier to vote and hopefully easier for our children to get a college education without amassing huge debt. We've got an extensive agenda which I'm sure will trouble a lot of you but we're going to do the right thing for our people and our planet.
Thank you for all you've done. We couldn't have done it without you.

A very short sighted view.

Actually, that's not why. Look at history and you'll find the Electoral College was designed to protect the southern slave states.
History apparently is lost on a lot of people.

It appears the present and the future is lost on a whole political party right now, or maybe it's just reality they are failing to comprehend.
