Printer Problem

I am using a HP 6700 Premium printer. Two days ago I used it and had no problems as is normal. Today I tried to use it and I got a message that said "the selected printer could not be found". I went to control panel and the printer was there (as always). I tried printer preferences and got this: "Printer preferences cannot be displayed. The local print spooler services is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine".

I have no idea where the "spooler" is, or for that matter what it is. But I did restart the computer several times, and nothing changed. In the window that gives info about the printer there is a place that says: State: network connected.

No matter what I click on I get the same spooler message. This printer is not new but has not done a lot of printing. All photo prints are done outside. Printer is probably 5-6 years old. It also does the same thing when I try to connect with a cord. It has always worked wireless until today. I am running Win10 and using a HP all in one. But Win10 has been on here for some time and I never had a problem before today. Today the printer did a test page and a printer check and all looked good. At least the test page looked good and the check did not mention any problems. The printer was of course bought new. I do actually use this printer for everything but photo prints so it is important to me. No damage has ever been done to it and it looks new. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Is it possible the printer just said I've had it? Any ideas would be appreciated.

From the printer I get this message: Wireless connection has already been set up. Are you sure you want to set it up again?"

From the control panel under "see whats printing" I get this: Windows cannot connect to the printer.

Under trouble shooting I get this: Print spooler service isn't running.

I know you mentioned that you shut your computer down, but did you also shut down the printer and pull the plug from the wall? If you tried all of those things
I would suggest getting out your original disk that came with the printer and try reinstalling it after deleting it from your computer. I know it is a real PIA, but,
better than buying a new printer and having to go all through a setup anyway. You have my empathy. Been there, done that.

Sounds silly but have you tried to reboot your system? If that doesn't work delete and reload your printer drivers. Go to the net and download your latest drives from HP. What could be happening is there have been a couple of updates with Win 10 in the last week and it may have screwed up the drivers.

First turn off then unplug your printer and turn off your computer or restart it from your desk top. Turn the computer back on (or restart) and wait until it has fully loaded then plug your printer back in and see if the OS finds the printer. If it doesn't than I suggest replacing the printer drivers.

Will, try this: Go to start, control panel, Administrative tools, services, scroll down to print spooler then right click on start or maybe Auto.

Good luck.

I'm gonna do this but I already tried the drivers and got this message from HP: "A newer version of HP support solutions framework is already installed".

I am having a problem with a printer. I think it may be in the print spooler that I cannot get to run. I get this message: "Windows could not start the print spooler services on local computer. Error 0x800706b9 not enough resources are available to complete this operation". If I was to get a new printer, which was planned in a month or so anyway, would this problem still be there or not? Thanks.

Search the web for the error message.
Here is one place to look for the answer:

Probably not. Newer printers have newer "drivers" that come with them. The new driver software works with newer versions of Windows.

However, if your computer is old with an old version of windows, you may have trouble.

It sounds to me like you have insufficient memory on your computer. And I suspect we're talking about an ink jet printer. What happens with many printers, particularly ink jets, is that the manufacturers try to pinch pennies and one way to do that is to not put any memory into the printer. That means that anything you print has to be stored in your computer's memory and if that happens to be a huge JPG it's easy to run out of memory.

By all means consider a new printer but in this case look for one that has at least a few megabytes of internal memory so that you can spool directly to the printer's memory instead of to your own computer memory. If you simply buy another printer with no memory your problem will not go away.

If my speculation is right by the way, you might also consider putting more memory into your computer. That might solve the printer problem without buying a new one and it would also improve your performance when you're editing images.

Good Luck!

Absolutely. You can check available resources with Windows Resource Monitor. Something is grabbing RAM and not letting it go, and the resource monitor will indicate what the situation is.
Don't bother with trying to dump RAM, the process will just grab it again. Try rebooting then print, sometimes RAM is let loose, particularly if you've got multiple application windows open.

Before upgrading memory, go to www.crucial.com and go through the new RAM process. You'll find out if your current system mainboard is already maxed out or has room to grow. I discovered that with a Dell XPS with 16 Mb RAM, I was already at Max, and adding memory was identified by Windows 7 but could not be used. Strange.
