Camera Coating.
I have a Sony a65. The rubber coating where you put your fingers is starting to be rough. Don't know if this is the start of the coating coming apart, or if it is only a localized problem and I don't have to worry about.
Do you guys know of anything that I can use to touch up the coating without causing any further damage?
Thanks for any help.
I saw something at walmart where you dip a screwdriver handle in it and you get a rubberized grip from it. Maybe us e a brush to cover the spot?
Loctite Bonding System?
How about rubber cement? Would that be usable?
I don't want to use anything that would further damage the rubber coating.
Maybe it is better to just live with it until I have to do the whole camera?

Why not contact Sony and ask? A few years ago I was given an old Contax 137 MD Quartz SLR
http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Contax_137_MD dating from around 1980. It was well used, but well cared for. One feature was that the body had a leather coating, that was pretty well scuffed and worn. I found that you could get replacements for the leather coating on ebay relatively inexpensively, so I ended up with one that was described as purple lizard! A bit more flamboyant than the original black, but definitely looks as good as new and very distinctive!

That tool grip stuff flows. You'd run the risk of getting it into the camera works.
It isn't a big spot, but I want to stop it from getting big.
I contacted Sony, they were no help at all.

Have you tried the Sony forums? I asked Mr. Google and got a few hits, but nothing that was an instant help. However could be worth your time to explore.....
Good luck!
I tried the Sony forums, but I got lost on the "Will Sony abandon the A mount".
I couldn't find much there.

I've noticed a slight change in appearance on my Nikon DSLRs. When my hand is always gripping the camera in the same spot, there's bound to be some wear. I wouldn't worry about it. It's purely cosmetic. The material is designed to provide grip, as opposed to using something tough and slippery.
I read somewhere, either a photo magazine or on a forum, that the best product to use to repair a camera rubberized surface, is GB (Gardner Bender) Liquid Tape. I found a 4 oz bottle in a hardware store, but have not yet used it. It is intended to repair or coat wiring, and thus I found it in the electrical section of the store.

A piece of electrical tape over the rough spot? Adhesive tape? Some other type of tape? Just something to keep it from wearing more.
It's not clear to me what you mean by "rough" but I recently cleaned up a couple of Voigtlander bodies with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). But a word of caution - best to use it sparingly as it softens the plastic material which will set up again much like paint. Using a dampened cloth wrapped around your finger on the rough area may allow you to work the surface back into a usable condition.
