I hope to make a trip to Florida this winter and I'm looking for the best places and times to do some bird photography. I'm primarily interested in wading birds in breeding plumage but also interested in any birds that we don't have in Missouri. I have been checking ebirds regularly for the type and counts of birds, but that doesn't tell how accessible they are. Two places that I've been watching are St. Marks and Ding Darling, but I'm open to any other ideas. I greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.
Thank you.
Donnie
There are numerous places around the Boca Ratan area, just google nature reserves there are a few near the water treatment plants,Great for wading birds,Early mornings are best times these places open at sun up first light.

The Merritt Island area ( Titusville - Blackpoint) is well know for wading birds......
Wakadahatchee wetlands, the other one is approx 2miles away Green cay wetlands, Super places I could not think of the names in my first post sorry it's the age lol
Shark Valley, which is part of the Everglades. The birds are acclimated to people. You can get very, very close.

Thanks Larry! Great to hear from a Florida resident. I will certainly look into it, and do you have a suggestion on the best time of year (winter) or does it make a difference.

Thanks hoylandboy! I've heard of Wakadahatchee and will give it a lot of thought. I understand about the age thing, I'm 72 myself.
Have a great day!

St. Mark's is one of my favorites. Especially Headquarters Pond. It'll take long glass (400mm +), though. They have a very nice covered observation deck. Watch for the gators!!

Thanks so much Bruce! I'll definitely go to this one. I have a 70-100 and a 150-600 Tamron, so I should be set for it, and I'll be careful of the gators, can't run too fast at my age!
Thank you DWU2! Looks like another great place.
