That's right!

And the gear caught a perfect focus of the eyes on the top photo. Very difficult to accomplish. Nicely done.

Went out today with my Canon Sl1 and canon 100-400mm. All the opportunities were there at the park today Kingfisher, Osprey, fancy ducks and a Blue Herron. Out of all the pics I took maybe a handful were ok. Now I am not that good when there's no sunlight but I am beginning to think that I need A different camera for BIF, I know the lens is great. Disappointed!! What do you think?

Part of it may be the camera, but part is technique.

This is what you really captured. If you shot raw you likely have much more details or nuances in the colors.

He is REALLY looking at you, kid.

I think I caught #1 but the others, I do agree..

I don't think so. We obviously have different standards about sharpness and what looks good. The OP's images range from very soft to out of focus.

It may be the sharpest but its far from sharp. You should be able to distinguish clearly individual feathers on the face is it was truly sharp. Search for examples on birding forums and you'll see what I mean.

No, the op did the work, he just does not see it as most suggestions do not see the real deal... (camera limitations).

Exactly I am having a hard time with sharpness due to old age eyesight but I plowing through it I have a Nikon D800 A nikon D7100 and a pentax K7 all are fantastic cameras as is cannon and the others. If I were you unless you have the cash to put out to upgrade you camera, it is way better to go to one of the refurbished and used sites and look for good glass to work with your camera can handle the work and you will learn then when you have saved up figure what you want you might want to stick with canon as you have the lenses for that brand anon is a very good company. By the way I was guessing that was as close as you could get at the time and I still say good job.

I could have tried running back and forth but think it is better to stay put when doing wildlife. Thank you for your encouraging words. I will wait for a great deal no hurries, I like my SL1 but learning the hard way. My plan is to get a good camera for wildlife and eventually replace the 6D for a mirrorless camera.

I have the first gen 100-400mm. My SL1 does look silly with that lens, since it's crop sensor figured it would be better then my 6D. Next time I go out at this time and the weather is the same I will try with the 6D. I like to grab the SL1 with 16-300 tammy for general stuff, It is very lite. What camera do you use the 28-300 on.

The 28-300 is my general purpose lens. Of all my Canon and EF mount lenses, the 28-300 is probably the one I use most often. Same with my Nikon cameras. The Nikkor 28-300 isn't quite the lens the Canon beast is but it's still the most versatile Nikkor lens I own. Many people say they aren't sharp enough. They aren't as sharp as a prime but for what they are, they're sharp enough.

The Canon lens is usually used on my 5DSr or my 80D. My SL1 currently has an EF 28-135 mounted.
