But at least I have gotten to understand a lot more about the right wing mindset and now know a little bit more about what we are up against and the forces holding this country back from evolving into a 21st century civilized society.

I don't have a problem with rational debate about political differences, it's usually the rich &/or business type people who follow the conservative philosophy, understandably, but equally understandably the philosophy of the working class parties, in your case the Liberals/Democrats, traditionally attract working class type of people.
In our country, we call the conservatives, liberal party, which, coincidentally, have there fair share of idiots like Trump but he takes the cake by miles.
The "Labor" party was born out of the people's movement, the unions, working folks. That's democracy, & as long as our bums point down, there will always be conflict between the two.
There will also be exceptions to those rules, but if only rational debate & understanding of each other's situation, was practiced & respected, the world would be a better place.
The fly in the ointment is these infantile mentalities mouthing off with insults & intimidation & personal attacks that make debate futile.
In communicating with one of these fearless right wingers recently, by pm, I found that he was not a bad bloke.
I reckon he'd be a guy I could sit down with a beer or three, & discuss the world affairs & disagree with no animosity.

Hi Bunko, our country is in an awful state right now. The fact that one of the major parties has a sexual predator for a candidate who admires dictators like Putin and Kim Jung U is embarrassing. He plays fast and loose with the truth, a born scammer.

I speak with some cons on here who I consider friends. They are good and decent ppl who in almost all topics except politics, we agree. Others seem to be just toxic.

The scary part about this bozo, or even more so about the electorate, is that there seems a remote chance he could get in.
When a majority feels happy with him, doesn't bode well for the country.

I agree with you on most folks being nice. It's a bit loose to criticise a whole country because of a handful of ferrals.
Unless there's enough to put an idiot in the top job.
And all countries have their share of losers.

I've had correspondence with quite a few Hog members that I could enjoy the company of. It's another benefit of such forums, meeting nice folks across the world. Like international travel without the scenery.
