Not sure if members are aware of this.
Not sure how the snapper feels her human rights have been violated if indeed she has broken laws in Pakistan?

Interesting and sad. I would probably feel the same as McCurry. When I engage with a subject, they become one of "my people" in a way.

Human rights and legal rights are not necessarily the same. The Jews in Nazi Germany broke the law when they avoided "relocation" to the concentration camps. Mississippi Choctaw Indians broke US law when they hid in the forest to avoid being herded from their homes and marched across the country to Oklahoma. Some stories get told over and over.

Thanks for sharing.

I've seen articles about the search and discovery of this woman. Fake identity papers? Fourteen years in jail? Ridiculous. People are horrible.

That's the trouble with so many laws. They're designed to hurt rather than to protect.

My wife, who served in Afghanistan with the Peace Corps '72-'74, remarked that her stern look was sharp disapproval of a camera pointed at her. Making pictures of people was contrary to their culture. The photographer crossed a social line and her look said it. It wasn't just the blazing eyes but note the set of her mouth. She was utterly displeased. It was not some public street where everyone is 'fair' game. The photographer was, in fact, invading anothers private space.

By what do you mean by "snapper?" She was a 12 year old refugee in a camp.
