Just returned from a 2 and 1/2 week trip to Thailand and Myanmar and am sorting through 1500 photos but had to send these while I continue the process. Schwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar. It was completed in the 6th century and stands 325 feet tall and is the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world. It is covered with gold plate and gold leaf which is estimated to weigh 35 tons. There are corners each representing a day of the week with Wednesday being split in two. It is important for Burmese Buddhists to know which day of the week they were born on, as this determines their planetary post of which there are 8.
I will be posting other part of the trip during the coming weeks as we spent 9 days cruising on the Irrawaddy River, visited several towns and villages and pagodas along the way. Things are rather primitive on the river, no wi-fi, 3 tv channels not much else.

Thanks for looking Bob, much appreciated. I have never seen so many temples, stupas, shrines and pagodas ever. It was a fantastic trip, more posts coming.
Thank you for taking the time to look and comment, I appreciate it. There is so much gold there you fingers get itchy and just want to pick off a bit. It is mind blowing.

It was a fascinating trip and this came at the end but I just could not resist posting it first. Will be posting scenes along the Irrawaddy, village scenes many temple, pagoda and shrine photos over the nest few weeks. Will try not to overdo it but it will be hard.
