When they fixed the video chip, they most likely repaired or replaced the motherboard, which may be failing again.
The Apple store should run complete diags on your system to insure that the motherboard ( and cpu) is not beginning to fail and the heatsinks are properly connected to the cpu and gpu chips and working correctly.
You may be getting a motherboard swap out again. After several attempts to fix these systems, I have heard that Apple is just replacing the ones that have been repaired multiple times with a newer retina model.

It's possible the cashe memory is bad; that's what it sounds like to me, if I were to make an educated guess.

My computer is now running like a cheetah. I installed a terabyte SSD, and Sierra OS. Most of my files are already moved, but installing all my programs on the new hard drive will be a pain. No matter, I will finally be able to clear a few jobs I would have done long ago.

I want to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. The wealth of information you provided is greatly appreciated and will be saved.

Great news, just try to keep away from programs that promise to do wonderful things to "improve" your mac Although Xtrafinder is good gives you a better finder with tabs and 2 panes the ability to show and hide hidden files but currently doesn't run on sierra. Actually Paragons NTFS driver is pretty good too.

What drive did you put in your computer; I'm curious because I have been looking at them and not all SSD are created equally.

I may look into that soon. Thanks.
