Wouldn't the environmental folks have kittens if they tried this off the coast of, say, Massachusetts?

They are off the coast of Alaska. Maybe not in as big an operation, but they are disturbing the bottoms as deep as De beers is. Also the bottoms are being scraped clean and coral reefs leveled by draggers which is a major place for fish to use as breeding spots , as the small fish use the reefs for protection from predators. Some of the corals that were 3 to 5 feet tall not to long ago are razed flat now. One of them is in fact off the coast of Mass. A major and long time favorite of fishermen from the ports of Mass.
