I attended the airshow today at Ftv Worth Alliance Airport. This is a FA18 Hornet on a high speed pass doing about 700 MPH, approaching the sound barrier. The effect you see is called a vapor cone that forms when doing this kind of speed. I've only ever seen this before on the internet in pictures and never thought I'd actually get to photograph it. I said right after this that if I never was able to take another photo that I could die a happy man. Chills now just typing this.

This is a great shot. You should check store the original so that we can see a close-up....Rich

The only thing better than getting that shot might be to be the pilot! In my dreams....

Doesn't that normally happen when breaking the sound barrier? Beautiful shot!

No. NASA Space Shuttles always broke the sound barrier when re-entering earth's atmosphere, but no vapor cone produced in low humidity environment at high altitude. While in the military, I witnessed several low-level, sound-barrier breaking fly-byes, but only a few demonstrated vapor cones.

I tried that when I uploaded it and couldn't find the option. How do I do it now once it's already there, or can I? Just upload it again?

Thank you all so much.

At the bottom where you clicked Browse to get your photo, next to that there is a little white box (store original) where you check and then click Add Attachment. Now you wait for the photo to come up and this sometimes take a minute or two and when it shows up click send.....Rich
