I took a walk yesterday to shoot some fall colors. Took this image and liked it. I do find the slim branches at the top left very distracting. I was not able to compose the image to eliminate them unless I walked in the river (stream). My wife & I agreed that it was not an option. I have a smart wife!!

I tried a few PS CC moves to eliminate them, but none were successful, without affecting the quality of the image. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'm probably a 3 - 4 in PS CC. I tried cloning, erasing, and few other simple tools. I Googled and found many tutorials, but they seemed complicated.

Any help and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Mark

Post this in the post processing section. I am sure folks will not only have an answer but do it for you.

One suggestion thought.... Just forget it. The details are too involved in the foliage and you may end up with either soup or something very unattractive if you only kill the branches in the sky.

By "forget it" are you suggesting the image or the selection for getting rid of the branches.

Forget the edit. The image is good regardless of the branches. It breaks the monotony of the cloudless sky.

I have two comments - the first is the shadows need to be opened up to really improve this image ( IMO) - and I would have probably shot this as a multi-exposure HDR.

The second is you could have used something like my aerial pod to position your camera out over the river ( without getting wet). The one in the photo goes from 4-8 feet - I have another that goes from 6-12 feet.

I think the picture is good. The bear branches tell a story of where the leaves are going. If anything, if you can, try to do an HDR of the shot to increase your details a little in the foreground.

Did you try making a selection and using fill "content aware", that generally does a pretty good job.

Mark - If you are referring to the bare branches on the left side of the image, why not just crop them out (unless the cropped image is too grainy)? Otherwise it is a beautiful image. hard to find a scene w/o some bare branches this time of year.

Thanks. I'll adjust the shadows. Next time, I'll try the HDR suggestion.

I re-did it and it looks pretty good. Not sure if I can submit the image unless you give me permission.

If you replace the sky you probably should replace the reflection of the sky as well.
Here is a tutorial for Photoshop sky replacement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXzg_u10VZw&list=PLllFqBuTM0WLbU1PQQFwlRWXK7lLuDy4D&index=10
