Whats a grease spot meter?

It is a unit with a small bulb and a potentiometer under a what look like a piece of paper with an oil spot on it. You placed it on your projected image and balanced out the spot to get your exposure time for that particular area to get proper grey scale balance for it according to your paper that you were using. Take readings at different spots to find where you needed to dodge or burn. Pretty primitive but worked like a charm. Had a magnification lens mounted to it so you could get down and dirty watching the spot balance out to the intensity of the illumination from the enlarger.

It takes a reading of the leftover grease in your frying pan after cooking something that really sticks.
After the reading, it tells you how much effort in ergs it's going to take to scrub, scrape, chisel and sandblast the pan clean.

Thanks!

As an aside, I printed 5 prints from 4 different negatives on 2 types of paper this morning with no test strips and each print was spot on first time!
What a pleasure to print with!

The unit on the right is a paper calibrator, that I didn't have. The picture of the meter does not have the magnifier lens.

The previous comment about not using the safe light when using the spot meter is true. Even this little primitive gadget would pick up my safe light.

Glad to hear your enjoying your darkroom. I sure miss mine.
