This picture was taken on a Pentax K-5 digital camera. The lens is an old Pentax M42 17mm fish eye lens. The ISO of the camera was set at 400, the f stop at 16 and the shutter speed (set to overexpose by 1 ⅓ stops) with the shutter speed being 1/50 of a second. I processed this digital image with Apple's Photo program while it was in still in the color mode. When in the edit mode I increase shadow detail and did very little adjusting of brightness or contrast. I also sharpens the picture some. I cropped the pic to a 16:9 ratio so it would fill the screen on my iMac desktop should I decide to use it as a screen saver picture.

I realize there is nothing spectacular or special about the picture. It was quickly taken from my front porch.

I would like constructive criticism of the job I did of converting the picture from color and rendering it as a b/w.

I actually shot this picture first. I should have shielded the sun from the 17mm fisheye lens with my left hand. Not doing so produced the two lens flare hexagons in the upper left corner of the sky. This picture was taken with the internal filter set on the clear UV setting. The first picture sent to UHH was actually the second picture taken and was taken with the internal filter in the lens set onto the orange (O2) indent.

It looks slightly overexposed and I would have darkened the sky a little to contrast the clouds. The focus is pretty good on the truck.

Maccelerate

Only thing that bugs my eye is the horizon (un)level. OTOH, maybe you live on a hill. I like the contrasts on both. Normally, B&W doesn't thrill me, but I like these.

Dear Maccelerate,

I do live on a street that slopes downward from right to left. I notice that in the picture of you you're holding what looks like a film camera. I've been shooting a lot of my old film gear since I got a film scanner. I love being able to use the old stuff I cut my teeth on almost fifty years ago as well as take pictures with today's digital gear. I really enjoy having photography as a hobby.
