It's a Davis and Sanford tripod head. Works great with an 8x10 Deardorff field camera. I used both in the early 1970s at Kranzten Studio and Hedrich-Blessing Studio i Chicago. I still have a D&S tripod in my garage.
Eastman kodak head for large format camera mounted on a Davis & Sanford tripod . Have one sitting next to me . Yours is in very good shape , looks like it has very little use.

NAILED IT!
I just found a pic showing my mount on a D&S rolling tripod. Unusual mounting system to say the least!

Hoping someone here may recognize this mount as I have no idea what it is made for. My best guess is a mount for a LARGE (8x10?) view camera of some sort, but I have no idea what it is supposed to mount that camera onto. The top is 7 inches wide by 8.5 inches long and felted to prevent scratching. It has one 1/4" attaching screw to mount the camera onto it is in a sliding slot for positioning choices. There is also a fixed 1/4" threaded hole in the other end to use for a two screw mounting it would appear. The base hole that would mount to something like a round rail is exactly 1" in diameter. The plate is cast aluminum that has been machined flat to be felted. Anybody got a guess?

I think it's the engine gasket for the alien ship that crashed in Roswell. LOL

Tripod head plate for large cameras. Like the old big box school cameras that held 100 foot roles of film.

Not this time. You are talking about the Camerz 70mm Roll Film cameras, I have two of them and they all use a single 3/8" hole mount. The mystery has already been solved anyway as you will see in the previous posts.
