Printer inks

I have an enclosed porch/office with windows on 3 sides. I exhibit wedding photos and test for fading in that room. 8 or 10 years ago aftermarket inks did poorly but more recent inks seem much more color fast. I use 2 Epson Photo 1400 and several HP printers. HP Premium Soft Gloss paper gives great results on both printers but when I print for exhibition I select paper with the qualities I desire for the final print. I may have to experiment with printer settings to get the best results but I have won contests, sold several prints at auction, and many have been published, the latest taking most of the front page of a local newspaper. When buying aftermarket inks, look for the best, not the cheapest.

I own a Canon Pro-100 printer, and have used both Canon OEM cartridges and LD Product after-market cartridges. My print results are identical. My printer works the same with either manufacturer.

I have been using ink from LD Products for over ten years. My earliest wall prints still look like new (They were not printed on archival paper, nor with archival inks--so they will deteriorate.) The company has been very responsive as well. In fact, I just ordered a couple sets of inks for my epson xp860.

I have always used Canon OEM inks in my Canon Pro9500 Mk II and in my Pixma i7220. Never problems. Based on UGGers that have good experiences with LM inks which cost less than half as much as Canon I bought set of cartridges for the Pixma printer. I haven't been printing much lately so I haven't tried them. I will report my experience when I do.

Hi guys and this is my first post from across 'the pond' here in Scotland. I have been reading most of the items that interest me and I would like to reply to who ever submitted the post on printer inks or third party inks for a Canon Pro series printer.
I would advise that the client uses the Canon inks and Canon paper for his work as I have the same printer and thought exactly the same as yourself but the difference is in the quality of the print. If you use Canon recommended products you will see a noticeable difference as I said I have tried both 'cheap inks' and the genuine product and as I exhibit a lot the 'trade off' is not worth it but if not convinced buy one set of third party inks and then try the genuine product and see the difference.
Hope this helps as I speak from a personal view.

As long as the inks come from an ISO 9000/9001 certified factory, there should be no problem. BUT, you have to profile the inks with the papers !!!

In my experience LD products are junk. 1) They frequently clogged which required many, many head cleanings. 2) They fade towards cyan. 3) WORST of all, I got several light black cartridges that were filled with black ink. That took almost a day to figure out. LD inks ruined my Epson R2400!

I know what you're saying, I have the PRO 10 printer and I always used Canon OEM inks, but they are expensive. I'm ay work at the moment so I can't look at a cartridge but, I found an aftermarket ink manufacturer that claims their Canon replacement inks are formulated as close to Canon's product as possible. This ink is not cheap but it is about 35% less expensive than Canon ink. You can buy just the ink or the replacement cartridges as well. Their cartridges aren't quite as heavy as OEM but they're much heavier than the Cheap cartridges I bough once, only once and never again. I don't know off hand if they're inkfarm or not, I don't think so, but I've read up on inkfarm and I may give their products a try. By the way, I always use Canon paper.

We're probably distant relatives. No, I've never been across the pond, been all over the contiguous 48, to the great white north and to Mexico but haven't made it over the ocean yet. Visiting the ancestral homeland is on my pre-bucket list. On my desk here at work, I have a St. Andrews cross and a royal flag (lion) of Scotland. It's amazing how many folks have asked me what the flags represent. After I retire, and sell the house we no longer need, (the wife: "but it's full of memories", me: "it's worth 3 times what I paid for it") we plan on doing a lot of traveling, mostly to places were we can communicate with the locals.

Thanks WayneT. Here in NZ replacement OEM cartridges are $30 each and are not readily available. I am interested in the Kit you suggested. There is no doubt that, even with freight to NZ this would be a moneysaver. Just one other thing, Canon dont have sales on Photo Printers like the Pro 10. I paid in excess of $900 for mine.

Here is an alternative that I have heard nothing but good things about, that is, if you don't mind doing the work. I am seriously thinking of switching over to this method myself.
