I am learning so much from this site and look forward to new posts everyday. I began learning photography 3 years ago using a Canon t3i. I have 4 grandchildren so they have been my real life models! I would love to upgrade to a 6D. Anyone have any experience with this camera? Thank you!

Well, a 6D is definitely more camera than a T3i. If you are looking for something to use primarily for photographing grand children, the 6D will definitely do the trick but you would probably get more bang for your bucks with the 80D. I do own a 5 a 6 and a 7 D model plus one of each of the XXD models produced by Canon. For grandchildren pics, (I have 4 grandchildren and one on the way, plus two puppies), the full frame, at least to me, doesn't present much if any advantage over the APS-C sensor. The 80D has much newer technology than the 6D, higher resolution and is far more versatile (faster) than the 6D. The 6D's advantage is, it excels in low light environments but it's not that good at action photography plus the 80D has a far superior auto focus system and unlike the full frame bodies, all of Canon's EF & EF-S lenses will mount to an 80D, plus it costs less.

Thank you for your knowledgeable advice. I will certainly research the 80D. The 6d lowlight feature is appealing and also the 1 precision cross type focusing point, as well as simplicity of use. However, I can use all my lenses with the 80D and from what I remember, the video capability is appealing.
I also like to take pet photos and landscape shots.....which the articulating screen on the 80d would be advantageous. Decisions, decisions.

I'd probably lean more towards the ability to use the same lenses and not have to go purchase more for another camera..

I have 4 grandchildren, but only one lives nearby. He is 7 and plays ice hockey. I use an 80D to capture all his sports and non-sports endeavors and am very happy. Good luck.

The 80D has 45 cross type focusing points compared to the 6D's 1. They both are capable of focusing down to -3 ev plus the 80D has 27 focus points that work at f/8. The 80D has built in flash, dual pixel AF, full 1080p 60fps video and auto focus while shooting video, plus built in WiFi and the articulated touch screen. I use my 80D far more often than my 6D. It's definitely far more camera for less money.

I don't believe the OP'S EF or EF-S mount lenses will fit on a Nikon.
