New D7200. Downloaded Raw files to my computer. Tried to make a jpeg copy of one for a friend. Got message that it was an unsupported file type. Downloaded and installed the latest 64-bit version. Same error message. Tried several other files - same error. What's going on?

What tool did you use to export the raw files to JPEG?

The D7200 needs capture NX D. View NX 2 was discontinued before the D7200 came out.

Capture NX-D and View NX-i are Nikon's latest photo editing software packages. They support RAW files from the D7200. You can download them from Nikon's website.

View NX-2 is obsolete, View NX-i is the current version and can be downloaded from Nikon's site for free. I had the same problem a few times before changing over, but not since.

Thanks to all of you. I have downloaded and installed the new software but haven't had time to try it out yet. I used Paint Shop Pro to convert the three files I wanted to send to my friend, so I got that accomplished.

Thanks for the update about Nikon's software.

View NX-i has the ability to convert individual or batches of NEF files to either JPEG or TIFF. Look for the EXPORT icon at the upper right of your screen.

I had the same basic problem. I had to download a program that fixed corrupted RAW files. I now download my RAW files directly from the SD card to the files I set up. No more corrupted RAW files. Adobe PSE14 can now read my files without a problem. I posted the problem here a while ago and a lot of people said I did something to corrupt the files; it's a Nikon problem. I updated their program; I downloaded their new program, all to no avail. For some reason the Nikon products corrupted the files and Adobe couldn't read them.

I hope this is a solution to your problem.

I recently bought a Kikon 1 J4 camera I use for underwater photography. The J4 also uses an updated .nef format that my copy of Capture NX2 would not open. I used Capture NX-D for a while, but it is not nearly as capable as NX-2. I found out that after I installed the latest Nikon .nef codec so I would be able to preview raw picture files, suddenly the NX-2 program opens the new format pictures without difficulty. Same thing happened when I upgraded from a D90 to a D-7100. Had to replace the codec to recover Capture NX-2 functionality.

You can find the latest Nikon codec at:
http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/170/NEF_Codec.html

Hope that this helps!

Three cheers for Paint Shop. I use it all the time. For some reason it seems to get shoved to the back of the bus, and I think it is great photo software.
