Yeah, she is probably walking either to a bus or her parents car after being in a parade with her high school marching band. Do your high schoolers have marching bands such as we have over here?

Jr High I went to in York PA they had a petite female drummer in the orchestra and they needed her on the bass drum in the marching band. She couldn't carry that thing. Their solution: one of the piccolo/flute players was well over 6 foot and a lineman on the football team. They adapted a backpack to take the bass drum and she marched behind him. She had to reach up almost over her head to play. But it worked!

Back when our 5'1" younger daughter was in high school, she played bass drum - in fact she had the largest of the three. Because she had played basketball the previous year, she'd participated in their strength-and-agility program, so she'd been able to press over 100 pounds, and she did carry the drum all by herself {basically looked like a walking drum}.

Worst part must have been navigation. Had to orient on other players to either side.

Did you ever take a picture from the front of a drum with arms and feet?

They practiced more than the athletes did {and it showed - they did well in competitions}

I don't think so - for family purposes we wanted to see her face.

I taught for Los Angeles Unified School District. Marching Band counted as both PE and Art.
My last school was constantly winning the LA Metro Area championship.
My first school had an award winning director and had so many players they had two complete bands that would do a battle of the bands before a big parade or festival. Winner marched as the school, loser marched in Army Uniforms as the JrROTC band, except for Veterans Day and Memorial Day, both bands marched as Army. You could never predict which unit would march as what, those kids fought that competition like it was a real war.
