These are shots of a fire on the Vandenberg Air Force Base that has postponed the launch
of an Atlas V Rocket with a secret military payload. The smoke from the fire has postponed
any Astro work I wanted to perform. The Atlas V Tower is seen in the lower left only 1 mile
from the fire. It maybe even closer by now 3 days after this shot was taken here in Calif.

Beautiful shots Craig!
So you are getting smoked out?
Well, at least I know my sporadic weather is Brian's fault.
That's my story and I'm stickin-toit.
(Our "normal" thunderstorm activity seems to be arriving in September instead of August.)

Thanks Sonny, it looks like we have some clear skies coming this weekend. Hurra.
Just my curiousity Craig, but did your shots get reversed in the uploading? I see a tower in the lower RIGHT on my monitor, both shots. BTW, your landscaping shots are pretty darned good. Is the fire out now?

Hello Chazz, I just reread my text and you are right it is on the right side.
The fire is still burning along with a 2nd fire in the north base sector.
I'm glad to say we are now down to just 10 fires in Calif. The Carmel
fire has burned 126,323 Acres.

I made a sacrifice to the sky gods, you should have clear skies over the next few days.

Chicken, or a Lamb?
I'm in early tonight. Clouds drifting in.
PHD2 is acting up on me. The dec is wandering off, and I can't (or haven't) figured it out yet.
Haven't hit on why.
Holy Smoke Grenade Batman!!
Crikey, if you have that nice of a view of the launch tower, you should be getting some really nice launch shots.
I wish I had that view...
Here's hoping that the fire season is just about over for California.
You have had your share that's for sure.
Those are beautiful shots, Craig. California sure got hit with a lot of them this year.
I have a question about Vandenberg... Is all of that work that was completed for the Space Shuttle launching pad ever used for anything? My husband was working on that project along with a bazillion others when the Challenger blew up. All I've ever heard is that it all was "mothballed".

Thank you very much Cathy Ann. My friend, ex military, took the shots on the VAFB.
I'm pretty sure they did mothball everything involved with the shuttle.
Thousands of people left the area, Lompoc, Santa Maria and Vandenberg Village.
We are down to 10 fires right now and the season lasts till we get some rains, if ever.

We only have two seasons:
Winter for 1-2 days.
And Brush Fire season.
But as dry as it has been, Brush Fire season may well become Nothing Left to Burn season.
Even the babies are
Farting dust.
