It's an exposure issue. You will need to use manual exposure settings.
At f8 and 30 sec at ISO100 your camera overexposed the moon by about 14 stops, if I counted correctly.
People frequently don't think about the fact that the moon is in direct sunlight so the old rule of thumb for direct sunlight exposure,
the 'sunny 16 rule' tells us that the exposure would be 1/ISO @ f16. In your case 1/100 at f16.
You might need to play around with exposure compensation a bit but 1/100 @ f16 will be a good starting point.

As rwilson has said start with the Sunny 16 rule and make adjustments from there if needed.

Thank you for your thoughts. I'll certainly try your idea. I'm glad you like the shot just as it is.

Attached are two photos I took recently trying to incorporate the full moon in the shot. As you can see from the photo, the full moon did not come out properly. Any suggestions what went wrong and how to correct the problem so it doesn't happen again.

Stumbo, I like the moon in the first one (second one is overexposed). If you could lighten the underexposed image but leave the moon as is, you might have a pretty nice image IMHO. Many people think the only good moon shot shows the man in the moon, but I and many others also like a moon similar to that in your first one. An overexposed white blob almost never looks good, but a moon without detail but with a bit of starburst can look incredibly nice.

So I guess it all depends on what look one is after.

The brightness of the moon is the same as on earth at noon. So expose to the moon. Two shots are great, copy and post the correct moon to the correct mountain exposure.
