I remember your last shot, Carol. Was it posted once in b&w? Either way, it is such a pleasing detail you caught. The Jefferson Memorial is my favorite in DC, apart from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. If you ever get the chance to shoot the monuments at night, it's a treat.
Thank you so much for sharing and joining the thread. As you mentioned, I too tend to shoot buildings as part of landscape, but as we've seen throughout these pages, there are many possibilities - a whole lot more than I would have imagined!
I remember your last shot, Carol. Was it posted on... (

You have a good "photographic" memory Linda. The last shot was posted in an earlier FYC thread - maybe about curves but I don't remember the exact details. We did a bus tour of the monuments at night. I only had my Nikon a couple of weeks at that time and was still struggling to learn it. That combined with bad weather limited my success but I did get a few shots.

Very striking image, Carol. DC is surely brimming with photogenic architecture.
Yes, now that you mention, possibly the other shot was posted for one of weekly book club assignments?
I don't know about you, but my memory for photos (McVeed's garishly colored house that he posted here in b&w - though I couldn't recall if the color was pink or turquoise - lol) and
locations is so much sharper than for anything else!
I can pass a location and say, oh I shot such and such here three years ago. But remember to actually look at my grocery list when shopping? HA

Nice night image of DC. I was in DC a lot when I first started with photography, and never got good enough to get decent night photos there. Glad to share yours!

I love how the reflection makes the building "merge" with what it's reflecting. Magical capture!

Thank you Minnie. This was an overexposed shot just short of blown out. I didn't have the skill to correct it when I took it. Fortunately I've learned a lot about pp the past couple of years.
Posting this screen shot of Dubai's Sheikh Zayed Road circa 1990. Also posting a shot I took of the same street through the Metro window recently. I'm not suggesting my picture is of any photographic merit, but I offer it as a portrait of the awesome power of Man to alter his environment in less than a generation - for good or for bad.

Powerful comparison, thank you!
