Interesting effect. I get very different feelings from these two applications. In the first, the roadway and approaching vehicle give me the normal out of frame experience. The photo itself is very well done and beautiful but the out of frame doesn't necessarily enhance it. The second is very different. It may be that the foreground is completely across the photo or just the nature of the picture. I feel a strong sense of separation between the artists in the foreground and the background scene - almost an "into the frame" feeling if that makes any sense. It is possible that the gray outside border blends with the foreground rocks adding to the feeling. All said, I really like the second example. It makes me stop and think about what I am seeing and feeling. Well done.

Thanks for commenting. In the painters photo, I had hoped to suggest the foreground painters were the artists of the landscape scene. Didn't really achieve that.
In the golfing photo I was not trying to improve on the original, I was just having a bit of fun seeing how it would look as an OOB.

Thanks for the encouraging words. These are fun, and a departure from ordinary photos.

Regarding what you said about the first shot, that was actually my first quick impression. It felt like they were creating the scene - a billboard sized painting. I do think you succeeded in your intent. It is the most provocative and interesting out of frame shot I have seen!
