i cant figure out differences between nikon 7100 and d5500,help!
This is not meant to be rude but just google Nikon 5500 vs 7100 and read the specs and reviews (TONS AVAILABLE) and you will get a lot more detailed review with no-one saying buy a Canon, Fuji, Olympus etc. I find that most of the time on here the" help" is pious to whatever they shoot themselves. Good luck in your search and happy shooting .

thank you ,i tried research but my head was spinning. the websites you sent me helped tons!!thanks guys
I have the 7200, and I like it, but I would love articulated screen on the 5500. The image quality is going to be very similar but I almost bought the 5500 for the screen. I ended up with the 7200 for the buffer and the more customizable buttons, but I would love a reasonably priced model that incorporated a little bit more of both. Those comparison sites are your best bet!
The biggest difference is the 7000 series have a focus motor in the body so you can use lens that don't have their own. Aside from that it is a more refined higher grade model.
Pay attention to MT Shooter, he knows his Nikons, and other brands, after all he sells them for a living and uses them very well also.
D7100 is a higher end camera prosumer rather than consumer
I would also recommend Googling something like "D5500 versus D7100" as there are plenty of comparisons out there. My best friend bought a 7200 while I opted for the 5500. I like the 5500's articulated touch screen and for the most part, the 5500 has the same features as the 7200 (24 megapixels, same number of focal points, etc.). The 7200 is bigger and beefier and as someone else said, it has more programmable features...that I'll probably never need. I guess it comes down to how serious a photographer you are. I'm a "good amateur" (having won a modest number of amateur contests) and I appreciate the compact size and light weight of the 5500. On the other hand, I would think someone at "entry-level professional" would want the additional capabilities of the 7000 series. Just my opinion.
I currently have a D5500, have owned a D7100 but replaced it with a D7200 (gas attack). The picture quality is very similar on all three. I love the articulated screen on the 5500 as well as the light weight. It is the body I carry most often when hiking. The 7200 is similar to my D750 in size, weight, function, and general "feel". What you see in the 7100 viewscreen is the photo you will get. The 5500 has about a 95% view of what you will get. The 7100 has two dials verses one on the 5500, which makes shooting manual exposure slightly faster and easier. The 7100 has the "U" modes, which can make changing your setting much faster. The 5500 has a touch screen, which I am still learning, but it can make changing settings, zooming, and many other functions more like your smart phone. Check out the link that MT posted. Both bodies are a good choice. As with everything else we spend money on, it comes down to a choice of what we want to do with it.

in my opinion, the controls on the d7100 are more friendly than the d5500. less menu items and more on body button controls on the d7100
Both are equally good cameras, the biggest difference you will notice between the two is when you pick them up...the D5500 is smaller and lighter.
The D5500 is one very good camera. The best of the 5xxx series for now. I could have bought a new D5500 camera body last year at Best Buy for $500 on a promotion they had. And it wasn't gray market either. Nikon firmly sets their prices, so how this was so cheap was surprising. The camera sold out online. I missed the deal. The D7100/7200 has the internal motor, whereas the D5500 does not. Neither does the D3xxx series. I suggest you save your pennies and wait on some Black Friday Deals coming up in the next two months. I'm waiting to see.
