Re: Gpa-15's 'Challenge' for all UHH Logical & Creative 'Thinkers'.

As you've probably already deduced {from my previous postulations, hypotheses and queries}, I'm an aficionado of 'ivory tower esoterica', on a myriad of topics.

With that in mind, (in the Topic of Photography), I'm sure you can then appreciate my personal Quest {re: <realistically and instantaneously 'capturing' an image of a reality>} and therefor my constant intellectual challenge of trying to make the current 'nominal best' even better; ...or, to even appreciate, my oft times, detailed ruminations in the style of the master-misguided-conceptualist: Rube Goldberg.

And Soooo, today's Query:
Please LIST and explain those 'considerations' that MUST be the integral and interconnected parts of the PERFECT 'P&S' Compact-Digital-Camera; ...and please Start with 'Automated-White-Balance'.
...Many Thanks

As soon as you placed digital as a qualifier, I'm out. Both my point and shoot cameras are not digital.

Seriously!? You want folks to alphabetically list the functions and components of a high end pocket sized bridge camera?! Why?
Plus, Rube Goldberg contraptions were not technical designs, they were art. If I remember correctly from when I read his bio, he never actually built one of his over complicated apparatuses that did a simple task.

Hi M-1116... Thanks for your Quick response. --- No need for alphabetizing --- Rube was an Artist who drew 'Overly-Complicated' contraptions toward a sought solution.
BTW... Hope I didn't insult your Quick Wit.

A Leica IIIf, a Nikkormat. both with 35mm lenses. The f-stop is set to f/11, hyperfocal setting on the lens and taped there. Shutter speed is 1/250. Film is Ilford Delta 400 at ISO 400. That is as point and shoot as one can get.

Hi Bob... WOW, now THAT is Quite an Arsenal. --- Do you have to make ANY adjustments; ...and are you Satisfied that the Images REALISTICALLY capture the colors (without ANY PP?)

Bill, that is not even a start of the "arsenal". To address the colors of the images, I don't worry about the color, as I shoot black and white with those cameras. As for adjustments, only as the light changes. I might drop the exposure to 1/125 or even 1/60. The point and shoot cameras are usually used for street photography and are taken out when I'm planning on that genre of photography.

Now, both my Nikon D700 and 800e can be set up in the same manner. 95% of the time I leave the house, one of those is with me. Likewise, I'll set them up in the same manner, except for hyperlocal. The reason being is that both will auto focus. However, they are on manual all the time. So, setting the same f-stop and shutter speed, and ISO as mentioned above, will capture any image if I need to take something very quickly. I can adjust the colors, should I need to, in post.

Please, understand, if it's a choice of getting a once in a lifetime photo, I'm not going to worry about the accuracy of the colors in the original capture. In addition, black and white might be the better medium for such a photo.
