More of a Psychological Question is this one I suppose ..
I do lots of Street Photography with the Emphasis on Alternative / counter Culture etc ,
as well as Large outdoor events ..
I often Stop people in the Street ( men or women or groups )and ask if I could take their photo .. 99% they say yes ..
They sometimes ask for a card so they can get an free Email Copy .. And sometimes I give them
a card and say they are welcome to free copy via email if they write to me .
But what happens is that 99% Dont write ..
Cant understand this .. Surely they would want to see the image ?
Am trying to understand the Psychology behind this ..
Someone said ' It's because they are apprehensive '
Of What ? What's the worst that can happen ?
Any thoughts on this ?
Any same experience ?
Cheers

So 99% of them think differently than you ... I wouldn't worry about it!
You didn't mention if you provided a website for them to view your finished product. If they are viewing the photos taken of them and do not ask for copies then the answer is simple. If no website is given to view, then people just get busy in life and have forgotten about the man that took their photo on the street.....

It's tough figuring out why people do what they do, especially when half the world thinks the opposite way of the other half. Maybe they think contacting you will get them "involved" in something. Years ago, we were on Carnaby Street in London. A man held a 35mm camera to his face and took our picture. Then he camera over to us and asked if we would like a copy. When we agreed, he said, "Let me get one more." I was sharp enough back then to realize that the first picture wasn't really taken because he didn't want to waste his film. He was just pretending so he could get our attention. We went to the address a few days later, paid a few pounds, and got a nice picture. I bet we were in the minority, though.

Maybe they just don't care, or at least don't care enough to make the effort. Maybe other things have higher priorities for them.

Everybody has a camera ... pictures are no big deal anymore.

Many of them probably own mirrors.

Writing to you means they have to disclose their e-mail address to you and possibly subject themselves to spam. As mentioned before, it would be better to have a website listed on your card and tell them to check it out later to see their picture.

Carnaby street eh jerry?...did he want a picture of you in your newly purchased Beatle jacket and winklepicker shoes!!
If you really want them to have it, have them write down THEIR email address and send it to them. The simple answer is they just forget you took a picture of them. Today I got a 5 dollar bill for doing a survey. Don't remember that I did it, what the subject was or when it happened but it was nice getting a 5 dollar bill in the mail. Make their day and yours will be made too.
Maybe you give off the impression you don't know what you're doing, and they rather not see the dreadful results.
Maybe they're afraid you will try to sell them something. Just a thought.

Jeez, maybe that was an attempt at humor?? If not, why say something like that?

Hey Lukabulla,
I suspect they forget, or just don't care.
The fact that you give them your card and offer to send them a photo merely authenticates you as a serious photographer, a sincere individual, and a nice guy.
Conversely, replying to you would reveal their own e-mail address, and that is something that some people do not want (me included). Knowing another person's e-mail address gives Scam Criminals an opening to do unimaginable nasty things. I know; I revealed my own e-mail address on Craig's List one time and was victimized.
Back in the 40's and early 50's people with medium format cameras would set up just outside Comiskey Park in Chicago (White Sox Ball Park), and snap pictures of everyone they could; then they'd give that person a printed card showing where they could call or write for a photo. I think the cost was $0.50 or maybe even $0.25.
My dad never replied, and I doubt very few others did either.
Finally, I like your technique though. Might try it myself.
Good Luck,
Tom
