A pulled weed

I selected the plant, inverted the selection, and color filled in Elements 13. I had opened the original image in Elements raw and teaked the Weed for exposure and a little contrast and saturation. the selection still seems wrong to me. Where did I mess up?

I'm sure a lot of us have looked but not being Elements users we are baffled. Interesting experiment though. (If the program had been GIMP I would said make your adjustments in RAW first, followed by a selection and further work in the regular program.)
