Said as an afterthought. I stand by my statement. Yours is condescending.

Phone cameras are getting better all the time and the camera has become a major selling point for phones. None of us knows what the future holds, but to think that phone cameras will bring about the death of consumer cameras is more than just a bit far fetched.

Noone ever thought in the beginning that cars would replace horses, but within 20 years many wagon and buggy whip makers were unemployed.

Why spend $300-600 for a one function apparatus, a camera, when you get a camera, phone, encyclopedia, and an apparatus that does so much more. If you post process everything, use the cellphone.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with the photos. Photos from a phone camera are good for sharing on social media, but the small sensor in the phones limits what else you can do with the photos beyond that.

Beating the dead horse drum again?

Do a search on UHH to find this subject... again and again, the last one being last week.

Check their websites out before betting much on your statement.

I'm not betting on anything. You made a statement, or more to the point, shared a statement that somebody else made, and asked what others thought. I told you what I thought. If you have a problem with it, it's your problem, not mine. If you only want to hear from those who agree with you, say that you only want responses from those who agree with you. You seem to be very invested in the idea that phones will cause the demise of consumer cameras to the point that you will argue with anyone who thinks differently. That is a very immature attitude. Grow up and accept that there will alway be people who do not share your beliefs.

I appreciate what you think. I was just offering you a place that might give yo soe pause and consider another point of view.

I'm not invested in anything regarding cameras. I just think it's an interesting idea and has created a lot of conversation, both pro and con.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to tell I had an immature attitude or I needed to grow up. Apparently, I struck some issue or nerve you have, of which I am unaware. Sorry if I offended you with my suggestion.

I have no idea whether you checked their websites, or not. However, I was surprised by how much they were able to
do and accomplish, most likely with some post processing, with the "small sensor in their phones."

That sounds like total bull, I wonder what he considers a consumer camera?

Like everything else, it'a matter of sales and marketing. If sales of cameras falls to less than profitable then there may be a consolidation of camera companies. The bigger (canon and Nikon ) companies will buy the others. This is commonplace in industries. Pfizer has bought up many smaller outfits. Walmart has put many smaller stores out of business. The only thing that you ca be sure of is that there will be change.

What he considers a consumer camera is in the video.

Why do folks get so defensive every time someone mentions new technology or a new product different from the one that they possess ? One thing for certain and one that we can all agree on is that change is gonna happen. Who cares what someone else has or what they think about what we have ? We all bought, have, and use what we wanted; our choice. Do you really think the millennials, x and y's are going to use bulky DSLR's or any mirrorless that does not closely conform to the form of a phone cam ? Of course not because all they know and have ever used is a phone cam. The stuff we use will be a niche market and the phone cams will only get better; maybe the masses are being dumbed down; actually it seems like everything lately is being dumbed down but thats another story for another time. It is what it is, and you don't have to read the tea leaves to see where cameras for the masses are headed. Actually I think an imaging device for the IWatch will not be that far off, but thats just my opinion.

I will let you know when I get my iPhone 7 plus. I see it negating my plans to buy a $1,000 travel camera. We will see. I think technology will determine how long consumer cameras can survive. Someday sensor technology will advance to the point where a small cell phone sized sensor will have the same capability as a full frame D5 sensor. That is my Nostradamus prediction. I hate to see it, because I enjoy producing better work than my cell phone friends with better equipment but the day will come eventually.
