There has been so much sympathy for the poor bird with the fishing line, I decided to "shed more light" on the birds plight. All were shot from my chair sitting outside a coffee shop in Carmel with D3300 and kit lens 18-55mm. Hopefully the bird was able to gnaw the line from its leg before any permanent damage.

Nice of you to be concerned about the bird.
However, nylon fish line is nearly impossible for a bird to bite through. Think of it as one of those nylon restraining straps the cops keep for when they run out of handcuffs - just thin and very long.
Years ago at a camp ground in the Sierras we saw a few birds with only one leg or a part of a leg on one side. The Rangers said it was from getting tangled in nylon fish line in the bushes around the lake. They said it was fairly common for it to cut off blood flow and kill all or part of the limb and in some cases getting snagged on something and the bird trying to pull it off actually cut through the limb. They tried to catch birds and get the line off but it was hard and of course they couldn't see all of them in time.
Check if there is a bird rescue group or someone with those big soft nets for catching birds who can capture the bird and remove the fish line. The Rangers did say sometimes the shock of being caught and handled was too much for the birds, but they felt they had to try anyway.
I hope someone can help.
Awwww, that's such a shame! Good shots, Michael, but wish you or someone could help the poor bird.
