D500 update

After trying to update my D500 with two different computers and failed both times, I decided to try using the XQD card instead of the SD card. By chance I pulled the XQD to transfer the update to it and looked at the camera and lo and behold it now said "update". No where did the instructions say to remove the XQD card to update with the SD card but that's what it took to get the job done.

Was this for the Firmware?

Yes it does....http://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/fw/198.html Click on Updating Firmware....#7 in the instructions

I just got my D500 yesterday, and with just the SD card on hand, I had no problems updating the firmware.

It never crossed my mind and I view you as a respected contributor!

Even if you are from NJ.

There was a recent thread inquiring about how to use a gray card. My response was, "check the manual." I guess I had an attitude, too.

I'm holding off on the XQD cards for a bit for whatever reason.

I just sent my 200-500 to Nikon,as they recommended, for a fly inside the lens!! Also, I was getting inconsistent fine tuning readings and failures so I sent the D500 in along with the TC 1.4 as well. I've been doing a lot of birding. I think that they will install the latest firmware and do a cleaning. Hoping for the best!

Sometimes it's difficult to interpret a statement with no facial expressions or intonations. A gut reaction can certainly produce mixed responses. As we progress, internet slang and texting abbreviations are taking over communications for many. Grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure are becoming a lost art.

I've done 3 updates to my D500, and never have I removed the XQD card. I just set the SD slot as primary.
