Rediscovering an old love...
Hi everyone. Just joined the forum. I started in 1970-72 as photo editor of my High School yearbook (Bellarmine-Jefferson HS, Burbank, CA). I used a Pentax H1a and bought a Spotmatic IIa when I graduated HS. Had my stuff stolen a couple years later and never really returned to it until about 3 years ago when we started traveling. Currently I'm using a Nikon D5200 with a Nikor 18-105, a Nikor 55-300, and received for Christmas last year a Sigma 150-500 Howitzer... errr lens. I like shooting at air shows and ws using the 55-300 for that. I got the Sigma for nature and aircraft (in flight) shooting. I hope to step up to a d5500 or d5600 when it comes out.
I'm 63 and retired for a couple of years now and like I said am rediscovering the love for photography. I hope to take a Jr college class in it next spring. We just finished a 24 state round country RV vacation (7600 miles) and I had a blast, in part due to shooting pictures. I'm retired Air Force and also from the Univ. of CA system. One of my favorite shots was at Arlington:
Welcome to the forum and back to photography.
Welcome to the forum. You are in great company. There are plenty of vets that just like you are getting back into photography.
Your 5200 is a excellent camera to get you back into the swing. I wouldn't be too excited about upgrading until you feel like it just doesn't have enough of what ever you are looking for at the time. Good camera hang unto it.
I can understand why that is one of your favorite shots. It is excellent. I like your perspective, your focus is spot on and you have good depth of field, what's not to like. Good one, hang it on your wall.
Again welcome. rest easy you are among friends.
Thanks. I've been lurking for about a week now and I like the positive attitudes I've seen so far. Some forums can easily turn into flame wars and all I'm looking for here is some insight and a little help. For the most part I'm happy with the 5200. The AF on it seems to work better than the 5100 I was using before (my wife has it now and likes it). Thinking back to the old days of film, I had to be deliberate and mindful of what I was shooting due to the cost of processing. Digital leaves a lot of room for experimenting with light, angles, etc. It's great to feel excited about it from my late teen years.
I bought a Pentax H1a on eBay like the one I used in HS as well as a replacement for my old Spotmatic IIa. What a hoot to see how far things have come over the past 44 years...
Thanks again for the welcome...
