Late afternoon sun at Blackwater NWR in Maryland.

I visited Blackwater NWR for the first time last Monday. There weren't many birds as this is kind of the doldrums around here. It's post breeding and pre migration (for many species). I stayed late hoping to get some nice landscape shots but found this Great Blue Heron highlighted by a beam of late day sun. The background was in shadow so he really pops out! Enjoy
Beauty! The light is perfect.
Everything about this shot say WOW. Perfect light, sharpness, composition, great reflection, incredible pose - just about perfect!
Beautiful shot. The lighting and subject are awesome.

Beautiful, Ed, and I bet you got a landscape shot or two that stood out as well.
Your patience paid off. This is one of the more striking pictures of a GBH I have seen posted here. The soft evening glow really makes this picture. Congratulations on a really nice photo.
