Do you use a masking tool, or just those inside Photoshop? How do you handle hair?

I just use what's in PS and I don't use them very often. When dealing with hair, I lasso tightly against the hair so as not to capture the fly-always, but I do save the original file so I can see where they were. Then I just add a blank layer and paint all the fly-always back in. I just finished a project for a client with a good deal of painting of her hair. I'll post it tomorrow as she just approved it.
