'Global Warming' - instead of scare, a little science for a change . . .

Please read: https://climateofsophistry.com/2016/04/06/the-hydro-flask-challenge-to-anthropogenic-climate-change/

It is a little long, but wonderfully illuminating.

long article, but here is the fallacy, an inexact portrayal of the "greenhouse" effect as well as basic inference and logic.

There you have it. The sun heats the Earth’s surface, the surface radiates to the atmosphere and the “bricks” which compose 0.04% of our atmosphere radiate back to the surface adding more heat than the sun did initially.

green·house ef·fect
noun
the trapping of the sun's warmth in a planet's lower atmosphere due to the greater transparency of the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun than to infrared radiation emitted from the planet's surface.

You can see the effect for yourself in a car in the sun... the visible light passes through the glass, heats the interior which radiates in the infrared... which is reflected by the glass.

...also effects of man-made climate change are being seen and correlated by many different and diverse scientific endeavors. The fact that we do not have a predictive model speaks to the complexity of the earth, not the possibility that we are affecting it.

Ah! So you don't have a predictive model?
Where do you get all the scares from?

the models are for the most part qualitative, not yet quantitative... such is the nature of science.

The nature of science is to provide proof, not unsubstantiated, ill-founded fantasy.

The nature of science is to provide explanations. So far no-one has been able to prove that gravity exists.

But Gravity can be measured.
And don't sit under a suspended piano. . .

Yes, and achieved by real science , not by self-serving, financially compromised conjecture.

are you talking about BIG OIL science and BIG ENERGY science? because that's the only climate science being bought and sold.

Do you have a car? Do you heat your house in the winter? Air condition it in the summer? You can do this because of big oil. Big oil doesn't even make as much money per gallon as the various governments do. Were it not for big oil we would still be riding horses. Are there problems- of course- but you owe virtually everything in modern culture to big oil.

yes, no, no.

Do you realize that big oil is heavily subsidized by the US government. When the government stepped in, it chose gas over electricity for powering it's next generation transportation system. If they had chosen electric, we'd all be flying around in hovercars by now!

The fact that we all do it, doesn't make it better. The problem is we don't have an option. If the government (UK) gave a half of the money it gives to nuclear to renewable energy sources, there would be free electricity for everyone.
