My family and a friend made a visit to Antelope Island just north of Salt Lake City, Utah late Saturday afternoon. This was my first visit to the Island, but feel I need to return often....I got up close an personal with some of the critters that live there.

Sorry about the blisters.....we were in car....too old to walk...., but you showed a lot of courage to walk that causeway and then to see the Island.

The causeway is high and dry and the lake has receded quite a ways from the causeway now.

I live a lot closer to the island than you do. We love to go there all the time. Things seemed to have really slowed down there over the last couple of years though. We use to see a lot of critters constantly. Always drove with my camera and lens resting on my left arm. Had to be fast on the draw. haha. But it's so different now. Still great fun to go and see though! Did you eat at Buffalo Grill?

No Buffalo burgers....sorry. I have eaten Water Buffalo in South East Asia and South America, but never have eaten Bisson. Our trip on the Island was very quick. We got there late afternoon and stayed till just after sunset. I have been told the water level is very low specially compared to back in the 60s when the water came over the causeway....

I think maybe that's why the lack of critters. No water so they stay on the back side of the island. I've only seen a couple of burrowing owls lately. At the ranch they have the bee plant (purple flowers) and the hummingbirds love it. We went 3 times looking and no hummingbirds. Darn it.

Hi Gary, that is a wonderful shot of the buffalo! Looks kind of friendly...but just too big for comfort, for me! Ha! TG

Yes they are large. This one was very slow moving and seemed to care less we were there. But I still remained on the far side of the car when I took this foto.

Hi Judy, I saw this owl as well, I do not know what kind it is. It was a good ways off and I had to a monstrous crop. I am surprised we even saw him. It was sitting close to a what we thought was large rabbit, but turned out to be a rock.
