I think the apology needs an apology. Kunta Kinte was the character, Roots was the show. The comment was referring to the roots of the Coronation Street actor's hair. No problem.

I guess I hang around with the wrong people. This wasn't offensive. The group I hang out with have said far more insulting things than this to each other. It one isn't "insulted" they aren't liked very much.
