Had a strange thing today while looking at facebook . One of the ads (the one about asteroid hitting earth) when I clicked on it immediately produced a ransomware popup saying my computer was infected and demanding I call a number to get my files back . I could not delete this thing or minimize it all I got was bleeps. What I did was turn the computer off using the power button. Turning the computer back on and no sign of the 'virus' - did a scan and all seems ok - anyone else experienced this ? ie the threat of a virus or what looked like an actual infection but nothing occurred ?
I've seen that a few times. Solved it the same way - nothing remains. It' a scam.

I've had this happen on the UHH site where the ads normally are, but no damage unless you fall for it, click further, enter your username/password or call the 800 number for "help" - all of which were suggested. I followed the IP address back to a site in South America and determined the pop-up occurred with Firefox or Chrome, but not Safari. I shut down the process in task manager (hit ctrl-alt-del once to access) and did a thorough scan for viruses, malware and bots afterwards and found no damage.
they they demand 200 dollars or more to unknowing people, be careful , It was on TV about it
