Yes that is a winner. It is on the USS Alabama. Must have been quite the adrenaline rush getting
launched like that!

Yes, the crane hoists the float plane onto the catapult after it comes alongside. Many of the scout/observation float planes were Vought OS2Us.

Here is a link to a photo of the aircraft on a catapult.

This photo appears to be the float plane on the ship deck before being loaded on the catapult by the crane.

It is the drawn reciprocating dingle arm which is necessary for a forescent score motion. This actually the first one I have ever seen

It seems to be missing the frambulators for the dingle arms and I can't see any muffler bearings!

They haven't made those since 1946 so they are hard to find.

I was born after 1946 so a dingle was very, very rare when I entered the world.

I think he's right about the catapult.

I at first thought depth charge rack. But after looking closer in download, I guessed catapult for a float plane. Didn't know what ship, but figured a WWII vessel judging by the twin 40 mounts.

No fair joking to prairie lubbers. I wondered if it might be a joke, but thought, "Hmmm... Ph.D. in nautical engineering?"

I believe you are mistaken. The dingle would be on the other side of the ship, I believe this is the dangle.
