I was looking in B&H site for a polorizer filter and came accross a item called a "Moose Filter". In the write up I didn't understand what this filter did, so I sent for it. It came this morning. On the filter package is said it is a "Warm (81a) +Pl Cir. I do plan to use it for a few shots in the backyard later today, but I would like to know what to expect
On the back of the package is this list of info: B. Moose Peterson,
www.moose365.net (this does not bring up any info)
Distributed by, THK PHOTO PRODUCTS INC. (Tokina-HOYA Kenko)
www.thkphoto.com Made in Japan.
I'll take a few shots with and without and post them later today
What to expect?
It's a circular polarizer with a built in 81a warming filter.
It changes the white balance to a bit more yellow/orange...sort of like sunset colors.

It is a circular polarizer that also has a warming effect. Most polarizers are cooling filters - they tend to shift a photo towards the blue end of the spectrum. To compensate, some CPs have been developed that incorporate a warming (shift towards red) effect.

Good ones SHOULD be neutral.
Bad ones go all over the place: blue, purple, green...
Cheers,

Moose Peterson is a nationally known wildlife photographer who often uses this filter to bring up hues.
Read his excellent book "Captured" for an interesting look at the art of wildlife photography----lots of really good ideas. You will either like him or hate him---he has his system---for him it works.

Its more commonly referred to as a "Warming Polarizer". They have been around since before Moose Peterson, but he popularized them for wildlife in several articles. (He got HOYA to make one to his preferences) I have a Tiffen Warming Polarizer from 1976, but its the older Linear version. They are really nice to use with fall foliage.
Here are the photos I took this morning in the backyard. I use a Canon 50, with a Tamron 18-270mm lens, I have just a Marumi 62mm UV filter on the first photo, on the others I added the "Moose filter". All 3 photos were shot on Auto, ISO 100.

Is that the Algiers water tower in the distance?
If it is, it very distant. The photo was take in my backyard on the Stonebridge Canal. It is the border beween Jefferson, and Plaquemans Parish.
Welcome aboard from another New Orleanian.
I Just bought one. The Warming (81A)+ PL CIR. 58mm, but I also need one for a 72 mm I seem to like it very much got some nice shots in early late afternoon around yard with pets. I really want to see what happens around the city and lakes here. It does seem to reduce the glare a great bit.
You're right, another New Orleanian. Proud to swim home. This city has a large amout of great shots lingering everywhere. I plan on doing a little group when I get home from my European Cruise.
There is a new walking park open in Belle Chase. I'm not sure where it is located, but it is advertised to have 13 miles of trails. Do you know anything about it?
From what I have seen about the "moose filter" it has found a home in my bag. I like the warming effect, but it does not replace a polorizer. So, I think I'll invest in a "normal" polorizer before I go to Europe. I'm going to Greater New Orleans Camer Club meeting tomorrow evening, they are having a Canon Point of Light speaker. I may talk to him about it, and talk to some of the other members. (GNOCC.org.)

I rarely get to the West Bank. The amount of overtime (including weekends) that I have had to work lately doesn't allow much "out and about" time. My excursions have mostly been on the levee between Riverbend and Ochsner Hospital.
Welcome to UHH. I really like the 1st photo the best. Thanks for posting.
Here I was fooling around in front yard using my Moose Warming filter also playing with HDR photos too.
