Two strange things happened recently. I turned on my computer, and the monitor screen was black. Everything was connected, but it was just black. I thought I'd try the old off/on trick, but I couldn't even turn it off. The green power light/power button was lit. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it worked fine. Before you think this was a computer problem, I have two computers hooked up to this monitor with a KVM switch, and neither computer displayed on the monitor.

Another strange thing. After using my other computer for a while yesterday, the keyboard would not enter any info - neither letters nor function keys (This is on the two computer setup). The mouse worked, and the keyboard works fine on the other computer. I haven't tried it today, but I'm hoping it works. The same wire connects the mouse and keyboard, so if one works, so should the other.

Jerry, I'd be looking at the KVM switch. That's is the common link in the system.

Issue with the KVM switch?

Hi Jerry,

Next time it happens, bypass the switch and plug the monitor (or keyboard or mouse), directly in, and you'll know.

Cheers,
Chris

Have you received the Win 10 anniversary update, I have been using it for a few days now, and I am occasionally having a similar problem, black screen keyboard and mouse not working. Only solution was to power the PC off and switch back on, then it's back to normal.

Here are a host of articles about freezes related to Win 10 Anniversary update.

Thankyou for the link, the strange thing is I have a PC and a laptop with anniversary update installed sharing the same desk, but only the PC has the problem.
The problem seems to happen mostly when using Google Photos to edit with, I will experiment with other PP's to see if the problem still happens.

I had a weird thing happening with my PC last week. I kept losing my mouse - freezing up. I would have to frequently disconnect and reconnect. Then other weird issues began creeping in. A window would freeze. My Virus and malware programs scan daily, but I felt it might be either a virus or malware causing the issue. So, to cover the bases I disconnected 5 year old wired Ativa mouse and connected a wired Asus mouse that came with my Asus laptop. (I don't like wireless mice) No more weird issues - simple cause but I don't always look for the simple. Ordered a new mouse that is arriving today. Computers are always a challenge to keep running perfectly. (I'm a nut about that)

I just turned it on again, and still no keyboard response. Interesting detail - When I set it up with Win10 (former Vista machine), it worked fine, and the activation key was accepted. A day later, it was telling me to activate it again, but it would not accept the number. As a result, I am left with an unactivated Windows 10. As a "benefit" of this situation, I must always use the password to get back in after it goes to sleep, since I stupidly entered a password when it asked for one in the original setup. If Win10 hasn't been activated, you can't Personalize it, so I'm stuck.

I'll play around with the keyboard situation later - maybe.

I solved all my Windows 10 problems. Bought a refurbished Windows 7. No more Windows 10 problems.
