Is this store legit? I know that there are several stores with similar names and some don't have good reputations. They have a lens for sale for $949 that B&H, Adorama and Amazon have priced at $1149. Can't tell from the description if it is U.S. or gray market. Please advise.
If it is too good to be true, stay away. That is my advise. At that price it has to be gray market.

I am sure there is a reason they can undersell 3 highly reliable top reputation sellers.
Lots and lots of negative experiences from UHH members. Use the search function at top of page to find the anti-testimonials.
My issue is not whether the lens is gray market or not. It is how you will be treated when ordering. To save $$$ see what the price is at Cameta or try greentoe- and see if they honor the same price for a u.s. version. I lived in New York and purchased a few things there over the years (audio) and it was always like pulling teeth. Good luck and hope that you get the lowest price.

42nd St Photo plays on the reputation of the venerable late lamented 47St Photo. It has no relationship to it. They have a reputation for bait and switch. They sell grey goods and imports with no US manufacturer warranties. Some folks are happy with their purchases, but there are lots of complaints. The general consensus here is to ignore them and use a more reputable dealer. When one or two dealers sell products for well under the norm you need to be cautious. Greentoe seems to have a good reputation, though.

Yeah, it's legit. But it will rip you a new one.

Thank you for clarifying!
Several decades ago, I successfully dealt with 47th Street Photo, and did not realize until now that 42nd Street Photo was actually a completely different company.
I wondered why I was reading bad reviews, and now I know.

I've had the 42nd st bait and switch experience (before I learned better) and glad I walked away. You place the order and either it's not acknowledged or not shipped. Then you call to see what the story is or they call you. Then it's out of stock, but if you order accessories and an extended warranty, it's available (and you still don't know if it's gray market or has any mfg warranty). Avoid them like the plague.
Many threads on the topic ... all say the same thing ... stay away.

42nd Street Photo is a known scam outfit. If you want to know more than that, use the "Search" function at the top of the page and you will find many horror stories.

I have said the same thing. 47 st Photo was a mainstay in the photo universe. Most of my film gear as well as my darkroom stuff came from them. They were a pleasure to deal with. (can't believe it was 40 + years ago)
Agree. I’ve bought a bunch of stuff at Cameta, always happy and they always end up giving me more for my money. I’ve ordered via the internet, phone, and in their retail store on Long Island over a period of years.
