This momma built a nest in a planter hanging on our porch, had five youngin's and screamed for two weeks (could have been the cats laying around). All are gone, and the empty nest applies. Can't ID her Carolina Wren?? Thanks for your help.

It could be either the Carolina or the Bewicks Wren - my money would be on the Bewicks due to the Black and white barring in the outer tail feathers.

Definitely a wren (and the constant chittering about anything near her nest is typical of wrens), sure looks like the Carolina wren to me, see http://www.birdzilla.com/in-the-backyard/state-based-information2/south-carolina.html

The Carolina Wren lacks the black and white barring in the outer tail as is so obvious in this picture.

The underbody seems more like the Carolina wren on this page than the Bewick's wren, but I do admit they're similar.

Bewick's tail is gray with baring, Carolina's tail is rust red as in this photo and does have some barring on outer edge.
Bewick's has white/gray breast with no rust red that is showing here.

You're dead wrong. Check Audubon and Cornell Ornithology and come back with your apology. Check my photos. Carolina wren. Issue solved.

Range makes a difference. Bewick's wren is mostly a western species. I agree, definitely a Carolina Wren.
