A little more about route 66.
In 1926 only 800 miles of Route 66 were paved. Only in 1937 did Route 66 get paved end-to-end. Because of a change in alignment of Route 66 in 1937, there is an intersection where Route 66 crosses itself at Central Avenue and 4th Street in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico
The city of Monrovia, CA a suburb of Los Angeles, got tired of the Rt 66 signs getting stolen, so they painted it on the street.
A good series of photographs of the iconic highway.
I particularly like the "Standin' on a corner in Winslow AZ" photograph.

Funny thing, almost every Rt 66 hamburger and soda place I went into, from Santa Monica to Chicago, was chock full of "old dudes" just like me... GREAT FUN! Thanks for sharing!
These are great signs, recalcitrant1!
A fun and interesting series. I have enjoyed seeing all of these.
Love this series. My sister lives on Rt 66 in Pa
Thanks to all that have viewed and commented. Driving the "Mother Road" is a great historic (and geographical) slice of Americana and provides many photo-ops, stories and memories. I appreciate (and relate) to all of your comments.
