I have an HP Photosmart 7520 printer and am having problems printing photos. With HP's Advanced glossy photo paper I'm getting fine lines through the prints. I've cleaned and aligned the cartridges and still get the lines in the prints. Is that a problem with this printer or is there something else I can do? Is there a better photo printer where I can print quality photos myself?

Try posting an example so we can see the problem. If is a similar line repeated over repeated across the print, you could have a scratch on one ink nozzle.

I just retired an ancient HP Photosmart C5180 (it just seemed to quit working for the last time), but I've never gotten lines like you describe. Something is definitely wrong with your printer. And most are not worth repairing. Professional "head cleaning" needed, possible? I hear from nearly everyone that the Canon PIXMA Pro-100 is a good printer and often on DEEP sale or rebate. I just bought a slightly used Canon PIXMA Pro-9000 printer. It is a few years old in storage and the predecessor to the Pro-100. I would think the Pro-100 prints better than the Pro-9000, especially black & white photographs. The Canon PIXMA Pro-10 is excellent but pricey. Epson printers are a good choice as well. Good luck!

I have that model and get excellent photos. Apparently, you are either low on ink or are printing at the lowest resolution. After you click on "Print" and get that menu, open the printer properties, click on the "Paper/Quality" tab and select "Best" quality. You should get excellent photo printing.

It's called 'banding'. Several reasons cause it.

I have had similar results with HP by not setting the software option from 'fast' to the highest quality option, slower but better. You might check that.

There are several "incorrect" printer settings that can cause "lines/streaks". Without better descriptions of your program and settings, and of course results all answeres will only be guesses.

Be more specific, and you might want to take a picture, and hit "store orginal" of you bad print.

Good luck. Printing is great, fun and productive, but can be frustrating, and almost always expensive.

One of my Epson printers started having that problem. After doing a nozzle check that showed no problems, I performed several careful head alignments that resolved the problem.

I changed the "paper quality" setting to "Best" and the "Banding" lines were eliminated. Thank you. In the future, I will change to an Epson, they got good reviews for printing quality photos.

I dearly love my Epson. However, you need to learn your equipment. If I choice the wrong paper settings, things go wrong. The "thickness" of the paper, as even the degree of "slickness" of the paper's finish can cause your symptoms. Red River Paper is an excellent resource for both paper, and information!

Good luck!

I have an Epson printer. It also has a menu for selecting print quality. You have to make sure you check Best Quality on it also. There's just no getting around making sure you choose the right settings for what you're trying to accomplish.
